Description from the seller
FRAME WITH FRAME: 30x26 cm
FRAMELESS SIZE: 18x14 cm
Fascinating ink drawing on paper depicting an intense bearded male portrait, attributed to the famous master Corrado Cagli (Ancona 1910 – Rome 1976), a key figure of 20th-century Italy and founder of the Roman School. The work is characterized by the artist's typical graphic style, defined by continuous, broken and sinuous lines of expressionist origin, capable of giving a strong psychological and volumetric impact to the subject. The drawing bears the signature "Cagli" in the bottom right.
Historic note of great interest on the back: The back of the work preserves the important original application of a clipping from an era newspaper titled "Grafica di Corrado Cagli". The article reviews an exhibition of the artist (with references to the Panart gallery), citing historical works and the stylistic evolution of the master. This detail constitutes a valuable element of historization and a fundamental clue to the provenance of the work. The drawing is enhanced by a magnificent and imposing antique wooden frame, richly carved with geometric and floral motifs, finished in gold leaf, complete with a light fabric passe-partout.
Shipping with frame, well packed and fast.
The work comes from a will left to me by my aunt.
