Description from the seller

BMW Deus Ex Machina “Derrick” – a special custom ex German Police R80/7 from 1980

https://deuscustoms.eu/blogs/magazine/derrick?srsltid=AfmBOooiwVcRyMcbrXkNKyOBX9ZWmQVFAG2oBlGAVCpQFLq6-qae98j8

I’m proposing in an auction a rare BMW custom built by Deus Ex Machina, known by the nickname “Derrick”: a tribute to the famous German TV series Inspector Derrick and to the motorcycle’s history, born from a BMW ex-German Police bike and transformed into a Café Racer with clean, essential lines that are immediately recognizable.

The bike has been customized by Deus with a distinctive “milk and mint” livery, used also on the frame, and with numerous ad hoc details: Motogadget instruments, minimal controls, push-button start, old-style levers, suede seat, tank cap machined from solid, turn signals on the handlebars, neatly routed exposed wiring, old-style aluminum clamps, and intake with Bing carburetors and cone filters. The result is an elegant café racer, visually light, rich in details, and with the character typical of classic BMW boxer models prepared by Deus.

The motorcycle is perfectly functional, used regularly, and has just been serviced. The engine was rebuilt at the time of purchase during the 2021 Deus/Catawiki auction and has covered about 4,000 km since. The charging system has just been completely rebuilt: it is therefore completely new and fully efficient.

The custom tires are mid-wear. Aesthetically, the bike presents in excellent condition; the only defect to note is a small scratch on the tank, visible and documented in the photographs.

A rare Deus Ex Machina special, with a recognized and documented history, ready to ride and ideal for both a collector and anyone seeking a truly usable classic BMW boxer with a strong aesthetic identity.

Disclaimer

Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration. Neither the seller nor Catawiki is responsible for the registration of the vehicle in your country and will not accept a cancellation for your failure to register the vehicle. We also recommend that, if possible, you arrange a viewing with the seller before placing a bid.
