About Dalmore 18 y/o
----------------------
This bottle is the cornerstone of the distillery's prestigious Principal Collection. It is easily recognized by its rich, deep mahogany-amber color and the iconic metallic 12-pointed royal stag emblem proudly affixed to the front of the glass.
The Cask Journey
First Phase: The spirit spends its initial 14 years in American white oak ex-bourbon barrels, establishing a smooth, velvety foundation of soft vanilla, honey, and sweet fudge.
The Sherry Finesse: It is then transferred for an additional 4 years of finishing into rare Matusalem Oloroso sherry casks from the historic González Byass bodega in Spain. These specialized casks hold sherry aged for a minimum of 30 years, infusing the whisky with its trademark dark, nutty, and chocolate-driven complexity.
Tasting Notes
--------------
Nose: Intense, rich, and highly aromatic. It opens with heavy notes of Seville orange marmalade, dark chocolate fudge, and black liquorice, rounded out by warming festive baking spices like cinnamon and nutmeg.
Palate: Full-bodied, oily, and incredibly coating on the tongue. Deep flavors of roasted espresso coffee and chocolate-covered raisins take center stage, balanced by stewed dark fruits (figs and prunes) and bittersweet candied citrus peel.
Finish:Magnificently long, warming, and persistent. The dry tannins from the old European oak show at the end, leaving trailing flavors of bitter cocoa powder, rich molasses, gingerbread, and a final touch of aromatic clove.
Whisky Advocate Review
-------------------------
Matured in American oak and Oloroso Sherry casks. The nose is fragrant with honey, vanilla, ginger, orange marmalade, and a hint of smoke. Relatively full-bodied, with flavors of tangy orange, marzipan, sherry, bitter chocolate, then oak. The finish is long, with licorice and citrus fruit.
