Medsan, Kanagawa Sand (神奈川砂), a 2026 40 × 40 cm giclée, unique 1/1 edition, signed by the artist, in excellent condition, from France, a Pop Art mashup depicting Hokusai’s The Great Wave transposed into a desert with a Templar.
Description from the seller
THERE IS ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD - EDITION 1/1
With this square-format artwork, Medsan orchestrates a striking pictorial mashup, transposing the most famous print — Hokusai’s The Great Wave off Kanagawa — to the heart of a desert. A Templar knight, recognizable by his white surcoat bearing the red cross, sits with his back to us on the rocks, helmet and sword laid at his side, facing a colossal wave entirely made of sand that rises before him. In the distance, the ruins of a fortress cut against a twilight sky. This single splash brings East and West, print and Romantic painting, together.
The visual impact of the composition lies in its generous pictorial treatment, with brushwork reminiscent of oil painting, and in the invention of this dune wave with crests like foam-claws—a direct citation of Hokusai. The figure seen from behind — the famous Rückenfigur — invites the viewer to share in the contemplation, in the great Romantic tradition of Caspar David Friedrich and man facing the sublime.
The work’s impact rests on this confrontation: the warrior, stripped of his weapons, facing the crushing force of the elements — quicksand as a metaphor for time, quest, and faith. A grave and magnificent meditation on the smallness of man before the immensity.
A cinematic, atmospheric, and painterly piece, ideal for adding an epic, contemplative, and resolutely elegant touch to a collector’s interior.

About the Studio:
Atelier Joconde is a collective of artists brought together around a living and plural contemporary creation. Installed as a true center of artistic production, the studio functions both in collective creation and in individual approaches, depending on projects and works. Atelier Joconde is also a family venture. Le Yack, a contemporary figurative painter, develops a narrative and introspective body of work with cinematic and realistic influences. By his side, Medsan, oriented toward pop art painting, explores color, modern iconography, and visual culture. Finally, Neo Pablo pursues a more instinctive search, blending abstract art, naïve art, and figurative abstraction. Each work is conceived, created, and followed within the studio, with a common artistic standard and an identity unique to each artist.
