HIGHLY SOUGHT-AFTER ! As a foundational release from Chichibu, this Floor Malted distilled in 2009 and bottled in 2012 captures the very early years of Ichiro Akuto’s distillery. Produced from barley floor‑malted by hand, it reflects the original artisanal philosophy of a site then operating with a single still and extremely limited output. Matured in ex‑bourbon barrels and American oak casks (with a touch of Mizunara depending on the batch), it was bottled at 50.5% ABV, non‑chill‑filtered and natural colour, with a total outturn of 8,800 bottles (here is N°6609).
Despite its young age (3 years), it shows remarkable depth: fresh malt, orchard fruits, citrus, light honey, vanilla and gentle spice, leading to a long, textured finish that foreshadows Chichibu’s future signature style.
Now exceedingly scarce, this early‑era vintage is regarded as a major collectible, prized for its historical significance and its role in the rise of the distillery. International reviewers consistently praise its purity and precision, with ratings typically around 87–89/100, an exceptional score for such a young whisky.
