Description from the seller
For Sale: Authentic Collector’s Item with Historical and Antique Value
I am offering for sale an authentic collectible piece of confirmed historical and period significance. It is a British telescopic mechanical pencil (propelling pencil) made of solid 9-carat gold, most likely manufactured between 1890 and 1920 (Late Victorian / Edwardian era).
The item is exceptionally robust and heavy for the standards of its period, featuring a solid gold casing decorated with a finely textured diamond-pattern finish (engine-turned barleycorn pattern).
Technical Details and Hallmarks:
Original markings: Stamped with “PATENT APPR” on the sliding section and the official 9ct gold purity mark.
Historical engraving: The body is engraved with the name of the original owner, “Capt Wallis” (most likely a captain in the British Army or Royal Navy of that era).
Weight: The empty 9-carat gold casing weighs exactly 20 grams. The total weight, including the internal mechanism, is 25 grams.
Condition: The internal lead-propelling mechanism is currently non-functional (jammed). The mechanism has been carefully removed from the gold tube and is included with the item, allowing a restorer the opportunity to repair it. The gold body remains intact, with no cracks or major dents.
Important Information for Buyers:
The item is being sold as a collectible antique. The asking price is based on the intrinsic value of the 20 grams of 9-carat gold, with additional consideration given to its historical significance, rarity, and collectible appeal.
