Oil on panel titled Capretta by M. Fonte, dating to 1900–1910, an animal study of a goat in a sunlit Italian rural landscape, signed by hand, original ebony frame, with frame dimensions 29.5 x 24 x 2.3 cm.
Description from the seller
Oil on panel depicting a goat grazing in a rural landscape, signed "M. Fonte" at the bottom right.
The painting presents an immediate and spontaneous painting, characterized by free and luminous brushwork typical of the Italian verismo tradition from the late 19th to the early 20th century. The composition, built with rapid chromatic touches and a delicate palette, effectively conveys the atmosphere of a sunlit Mediterranean countryside.
The work can be interpreted as a study from life or an autonomous sketch intended for sale, a practice very common among landscape and animal painters of the period.
Particularly interesting is the original in ebony-colored wooden frame with an elegant late–19th-century geometric profile, an element that further enhances the whole and testifies to its historical coherence.
There are also slight traces of a previous inscription or signature in red pigment along the lower edge of the panel.
Technique: oil on panel
Signature: "M. Fonte" at the bottom right
Era: late 19th - early 20th century
Dimensions with frame: 29.5 x 24 x 2.3 cm
Panel dimensions: 20 x 14.5 cm
Conditions: generally good; normal signs of aging and slight wear compatible with the age, on both the painting surface and the original frame.
A work of pleasant painterly quality, representative of the Italian verismo tradition and particularly suitable for collectors of small landscapes and authorial sketches from the late 19th to early 20th century.
