Description from the seller

SAN FRANCISCO is a 70 x 100 cm painting by Flavia Delgado, inspired by one of the world’s most recognizable urban landscapes. The work pays homage to the Californian city through the representation of the iconic Golden Gate Bridge, transformed here into a strongly graphic image that blends the aesthetics of vintage travel posters with a contemporary sensibility.

The composition places the bridge as the absolute protagonist of the scene. Its striking red structures cross the bay with a monumental presence, establishing a visual dialogue between human-made architecture and the vastness of the natural landscape. The mountainous horizon, the calm waters, and the large, reddened sun complete an image of balance and visual clarity.

The artwork uses a reduced, carefully selected palette. The bridge’s intense reds contrast with the soft tones of the sky and water, while blacks and creams add depth and structure. This chromatic economy recalls mid-20th-century vintage travel posters, where visual synthesis was capable of conveying the essence of a place with few elements.

Beyond its architectural value, the Golden Gate Bridge appears as a universal symbol of connection. The bridge represents the union between territories, cultures, and experiences, becoming a metaphor of travel, movement, and the possibility of crossing physical and emotional borders. In this sense, the work transcends a mere representation of a monument to also speak of encounters, opportunities, and changes that accompany any journey.

The chosen perspective invites the viewer to contemplate the scene from a point close to the coast, as if about to begin the journey. This position generates a sense of anticipation and discovery, reinforcing the adventurous spirit historically associated with the city of San Francisco, a place of innovation, diversity, and constant transformation. Visually, the piece combines the compositional clarity of graphic design with the expressiveness of manual illustration. The defined lines and simplified shapes provide clarity, while the variations in the stroke preserve a human, artisanal presence that gives the image personality and warmth.

SAN FRANCISCO is a celebration of travel, of architecture as a cultural symbol, and of the ability of certain places to awaken collective imagination. A work that captures the essence of an emblematic city and transforms it into an timeless, evocative, and hopeful image.

Seller's Story

I present a pictorial work line strongly linked to illustration and artistic poster design. My works combine the language of classic poster art with the plastic freedom of contemporary painting: flat colors, defined contours, direct scenes, and a clear narrative sense. My work dialogues with the tradition of 20th-century poster art, especially with the universe of Art Deco and European and North American advertising posters, where authors like A. M.. Cassandre, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, and Leonetto Cappiello used synthetic imagery and color for visual impact. There are also affinities with European comic graphics and the clear line, from Hergé to modern editorial illustration. In my paintings, I depict interiors, architectures, figures, and travel scenes—such as roads, vintage cars, or landscapes—approached from a graphic perspective reminiscent of posters and illustrated books, but transferred to the realm of painting on paper and canvas. I aim for each image to function like a frame or a narrative poster, capable of suggesting a broader story without needing to explain it.
