In this composition, Doutreleau captures the essence of movement and speed, central themes of his work. The artist, born in 1938 in Arles, is renowned for his dynamic landscapes that explore the dispersion of light and movement.
"Le Cockpit" perfectly illustrates this fascination, offering the viewer an immersion in the aviation universe, where the lines and shapes suggest the perspective from a cockpit in full action.
Pierre Doutreleau was born on June 14, 1938. Native of Arles, he grew up in this light that dazzled Van Gogh, Cézanne and so many other painters.
Pierre Doutreleau discovers in 1958 Nicolas de Staël at friends Aublet who help him and encourage him to exhibit. Hélène Cingria introduces him to Lucile Manguin who had just opened the Galerie de Paris and who takes him on under contract in 1964.
In 1968, during a stay in the United States, he had the revelation of what would become the object of his research: Speed and Movement.
A specific approach to painting linked to the passion for movement, life, wind, and the wind of life.
"What interests me, in reality, is to paint the wind. In life, everything is movement. And if sometimes my paintings give the impression of stillness, it is because, in reality, they emanate from movement. I paint moments of precise life", Pierre Doutreleau.
Since these years, numerous solo exhibitions have made Pierre Doutreleau known worldwide, and from Paris to Los Angeles, from Tokyo to Munich or Rio, his works figure in numerous collections. From that date, many solo exhibitions followed. His native Burgundy is for him the essential source of his inspiration. Nature matters greatly to him; his bouquets of flowers are among the most extraordinary representatives.
