Description from the seller
Tamara de Lempicka: “Adam and Eve, 1932”.
Color offset lithograph.
Condition: the work is in very good condition.
Format: 44 x 31 cm.
Tamara treated the body often as the basis for a kind of second skin, sensually close-fitting as a neatly tailored suit, or as the canvas on which she draped flowing garments.
But her nudes reveal a corporeality that proves she possessed a thorough knowledge of human anatomy.
Whether she depicts an ancient hero, a mythical siren or Amazon, or the first two humans, Adam and Eve, her figures always also portrait contemporary people.
In the background, in many paintings, massive blocks of urban architecture rise into the air, showing that the figures are children of the twenties and thirties.
Adam and Eve are banished from the Elysian fields and have fallen from their religious, paradisiacal atmosphere into the pulsating concrete, asphalt and steel of the present. They are creatures of their time: beautiful, refined, pleasure-seeking, full of cool sensuality.
The original painting is located in Geneva, Musée du Petit Palais.
Never framed and kept in a dark archival storage between protective acid-free paper.
The shown photos are part of the description.
