Description from the seller

Round tobacco box in carved boxwood with tortoiseshell, depicting the Battle of Waterloo and the phrase: "The French soldier dies and does not surrender" which will be attributed to Cambronne (who denied having spoken those words).

Rare patriotic box commemorating the Napoleonic epic

Very good condition of the boxwood. The interior in tortoiseshell is a little damaged because very fragile.

Nice exterior background simulating a weave.

Diameter: 8 cm
Height: 2 cm

19th century Restoration period
