Description from the seller

Small set of 3 black powder canisters for the French Navy from the 19th century! These objects are rare because they were truly designed for combat on the high seas: the hoops are copper, and the handles are brass, to prevent oxidation from sea salt! Rare models because they are "vertical"; the most common are horizontal, so these were easier to handle than the other models! They were used by the loaded deckhands, during battles, to resupply the fighters with black powder! There are 3 different dimensions: 23/11 cm without the handle: about 1 kg; 24/13 cm (without the handle): 1 kg, the smallest in oval shape, height 18 cm, oval: 10/7 cm, 400 grams! Coming from a private collection in Belgium! They were made entirely by hand; you can still see hammer marks on the copper hoops: In their natural state, to be rubbed? Attention, one of the canisters is missing a cork stopper; the other two are present and original!"} } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } }
