Op de dijk is a 1940–1950 oil painting on canvas by Dutch artist Wilhelm Alexander Knip, depicting a cityscape with houses on a dike; hand-signed in the lower left, in good condition, 40 × 60 cm without a frame and 51 × 71 cm with the frame, sold with frame by Galerie.
Description from the seller
This oil painting on canvas shows a number of houses on a dike. Signed in the bottom left.
The painting was created by Wilhelm Alexander Knip (Amsterdam, 31 January 1883 – Blaricum, 28 October 1967), a Dutch painter and draftsman. He settled in 1905 in the artists' village Laren and spent several years in the twenties in France, Italy and Spain. From 1934 he lived in Blaricum. Knip is regarded as one of the important painters of the Larense School. He painted, watercolored and drew with pastel chalk mainly harbour and city views and landscapes. In addition he was a member of Arti et Amicitiae, the Kunstenaarsvereniging Sint Lucas and the Gooische Schildersvereniging. He exhibited several times and received, among other prizes, the Sint-Lucas Prize (1942) and the Arti Medal (1953). His work is included in the collections of, among others, the Van Abbemuseum and the Singer Museum.
