The 1854 watercolour titled "Driemaster" by Dutch artist L. H. de Stuers (1830-1869) depicts a three-masted ship in a turbulent sea, signed by the artist and in good condition, sold with frame, framed dimensions 36 x 51 cm.
Description from the seller
This watercolor is by the Dutch artist L.H. de Stuers (1830-1869). The work, dating from 1854, depicts a three-master braving a furious sea. With a sense of atmosphere and movement, the artist has impressively captured the power of the waves and the vulnerability of the ship. The dark skies and the turbulent water reinforce the dramatic character of the scene and reflect the sea-fascination that was characteristic of much nineteenth-century maritime art.
Despite its age, the work is in good condition. There are a few small spots, in keeping with the paper’s age, that emphasize the historical character of this watercolor, now over 170 years old.
Dimensions: 33 x 48 cm
Dimensions with frame: 36 x 51 cm
Viewing is, of course, possible. In addition, we have our own in-house framing workshop, which is celebrating its 85th anniversary. We also make use of restorers from the professional association: 'Restauratoren Nederland'. If you would like to take advantage of this, please let us know.
