The Nokia 8810 from 1998 is considered very rare among vintage cell phones and is an extremely sought-after collectible item. In collector rarity scales, it is often classified as category 2 of 5 ("Rare"), meaning that worldwide, only a few units per month in functional original condition are traded on the platforms.
The 8810 was not a mass-produced product. It was an outrageously expensive status symbol for business customers, with an original price of almost €1,000 at the time. Accordingly, sales figures were low.
Why is it so rare?
The former top model was a revolution in 1998
The Nokia 8810 represents a milestone in mobile communications history as it was the first true luxury phone to hit the market in 1998. It revolutionized industrial design by being the first mainstream mobile phone to have a fully integrated internal antenna. The technological revolution: No antenna anymore. Until the appearance of the Nokia 8810 in 1998, external stub antennas were standard on every mobile phone. Internal antenna: Nokia engineers succeeded in placing the antenna entirely inside the housing for the first time.
Without the obtrusive antenna, the device was extremely pocket-friendly and could easily fit in any pocket.
The Nokia 8810 was deliberately positioned as a status symbol and premium product for the luxury segment.
Codename: Zippo. Chrome look: The high-gloss polished, mirror-like metal surface gave the phone a futuristic appearance.
Key technical data:
Weight: 118 grams including battery. Display: Monochrome graphic display with green backlighting. Storage: Room for up to 250 phone book entries. Connectivity: GSM 900 (single band) and an infrared interface (IrDA) for data transfer. Extras: Built-in calculator, alarm clock, and games (including the classic Snake).
This is a private sale.
Sale is conducted exclusive of any warranty and defect liability. Exchange and return are excluded. Liability for damages due to injury to health, body, or life and for gross negligence and/or intentional violations of my duties as the seller remains unrestricted.
