Montblanc Masterpiece 642 fountain pen with a gold-plated cap and black resin body, made in Germany in the second half of the 20th century, good used condition with a 14C Montblanc nib, 12.8 cm long and 1.1 cm in diameter, one piece and in working order.
Description from the seller
The Montblanc 642 fountain pen presented in this lot is in a very notable state of conservation, with an elegant overall appearance and well-preserved, characteristic of an instrument that has been cared for over time.
The gold-plated cap, with its characteristic vertical brushed finish, retains a deep and uniform shine. The surface maintains its original lustre very well, showing only light micro-signs of superficial use, normal in a vintage piece, with no visible loss of plating or notable dents. The clip is straight, firm, and correctly aligned, maintaining its original tension.
The black resin body also presents a very clean look, with a deep polish that reflects light well. Fine micro marks of use are evident, typical of the passage of time, but there are no cracks, deformations, or structural damages. The model engraving “642” and the “M” mark on the back of the body remain sharp and perfectly legible.
The Montblanc emblem at the top of the cap is in very good condition, with well-defined contours and no appreciable material loss.
The 14C gold nib, engraved with the classic mountain motif and the inscriptions “14C – Montblanc – 585,” is in good visual condition, although the two-tone has worn. The tines are correctly aligned and the iridium point shows good integrity. The ebonite feed is clean and well preserved.
The pen has been inspected and tested, ensuring proper writing functionality.
Overall, it is a very well-preserved specimen, with an aesthetically very attractive presence and noticeable use signs that are consistent with its age.
Conservation recommendations
To keep this piece in optimal condition, it is recommended to use high-quality inks specifically for fountain pens, avoid pigmented inks, clean the system with warm water if it will not be used for a while, dry it properly before storing, and keep it in a dry place away from direct light and extreme temperatures. Always operate the filling system gently to prolong the mechanism’s life.
It will be sent in a courtesy box for proper preservation.
