Two fine color lithographs by the artistically versatile Marcel Vertes (1895 - 1961)
He was of Hungarian Jewish origin.
He became famous in the 1920s. He designed sets and costumes for film and theatre, painted, illustrated books and was a gifted graphic artist.
For his costume and set designs for the film Moulin Rouge in 1952, he received 2 Oscars
He was also responsible for the murals at the Carlyle Café in the Carlyle Hotel in New York and also for the Peacock Alley of the Waldorf Astoria.
These special lithographs were for the book Cirque, introduction by Jean Cocteau.
