Description from the seller

Signed painting by DUSSAU (Georges, 1947) – Large engraving No. 13/99, aquatint and carborundum on embossed paper, abstract composition, “Avant L'Orage” - 1980.

() Embossing on paper involves creating a relief by pressing to form a hollow in certain areas. The paper is then deformed by pressure using a machine. Paper embossing adds a unique tactile quality to your documents.

The painter and engraver Georges DUSSAU was born in 1947 in CHALON-SUR-SAÔNE. Today he divides his time and work between MELLECEY (Saône-et-Loire) and MOUGINS (Alpes-Maritimes). Georges DUSSAU studied art at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in PARIS. He began his career as a painter in 1969 and held his first solo exhibition at the Hôtel de Ville gallery in CHALON-SUR-SAÔNE in 1971. The young man dreamed of becoming an artist, and this dream came true in the early 70s when he went to PARIS to present his work; he was quickly noticed for his talent and style. It was with editor and gallerist Jacqueline de CHAMPVALLINS that he earned his reputation. For more than 50 years now, as an artist with an abstract expression, he has focused on techniques of oil painting, screen printing, engraving, and mixed media. His works are characterized by a range of vibrant colors and an expressive use of color and form. Georges DUSSAU combines fluid lines with fragmented geometric shapes. Throughout his long career, the artist has exhibited his work in more than a hundred exhibitions worldwide. His works have been shown in numerous cities, notably PARIS, TOKYO, NEW YORK, and HONG KONG. He has regularly participated in international contemporary art fairs (DÜSSELDORF, FRANKFURT, …). His works are part of the permanent collections of the Centre Pompidou in PARIS and the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in NEW YORK. A tireless worker, perpetual creator, Georges DUSSAU transports us to a poetic universe that is uniquely his. “I have spent my life having fun in my studio with serious work,” he writes. Even in terms of engraving alone, nearly 680 original works have been produced in a little more than 50 years! A prolific artist, indeed versatile, he writes: “The great happiness is to live from one’s passion.”
