This abstract painting, titled Haven, is created by Christien Timmermans-Smits. In the work the colors of a harbor are clearly recognizable: various shades of blue, green and yellow evoke associations with water, reflections and the dynamic character of a harbor landscape. The horizontal colour fields give the painting a layered structure and reinforce the suggestion of quays, waterlines and the activity on the horizon. The paint is applied with impasto, creating a rich texture that captures the light in a lively way. Additionally, the artist deliberately added scratches and incised lines in the paint, which add extra depth, texture and a sense of movement to the work.
