Moeder en dochter, a 1976 oil painting by Dutch artist Jan Asselbergs, in impressionist portrait style, measuring 116 × 96 cm with frame, signed by hand, originaal edition, sold with frame by Galerie, in good condition.
Description from the seller
This expressive double portrait of mother and daughter was created by the Dutch artist Jan Asselbergs. Asselbergs made paintings, watercolors, drawings and sculptures, with the human figure always at the center. In particular, his powerful chalk drawings of faces and torsos stand out for their loose, spontaneous and expressive character. From 1980 he dedicated himself entirely to painting portraits.
Asselbergs believed it important to depict his subjects in a familiar environment, so they appeared relaxed, self-assured and authentic on the canvas. By presenting his sitters frontally and having them look the viewer directly in the eye, he tried to reveal their personality and inner strength. In addition to many unknown models, he also portrayed numerous well-known Dutch people, including Queen Beatrix, King Willem-Alexander, Ruud Lubbers, Monique van de Ven and Marco Borsato.
