Koningin Beatrix is an original oil painting by Jan M.C. Asselbergs (1937-2015), a frontal double portrait of mother and daughter from the period 1970–1980, signed by hand, from the Netherlands, sold with frame, 126 x 86 cm.
Description from the seller
This expressive double portrait of mother and daughter was created by the Dutch artist Jan Asselbergs. Asselbergs made paintings, watercolors, drawings, and sculptures, with the human figure always at the center. Especially his powerful chalk drawings of faces and torsos stand out for their loose, spontaneous, and expressive character. From 1980 he devoted himself entirely to portrait painting.
Asselbergs considered it important to depict his sitters in a familiar environment, so that they appeared relaxed, self-assured, and authentic on the canvas. By presenting his subjects facing the viewer and looking directly at the observer, he tried to reveal their personality and inner strength. In addition to many unknown sitters, he also portrayed numerous well-known Dutch figures, including Queen Beatrix, King Willem-Alexander, Ruud Lubbers, Monique van de Ven, and Marco Borsato.
