Description from the seller

Albert Marquet (Bordeaux 1875–1947 Paris).

"La Blanchisseuse," 1903. Reissued, ca. 1940.

Original woodcut on paper. Wet stamp signature on the plate. Embossed dry stamp of the publisher. Guilde internationale de l'Amateur de Gravures.

Size: 28 x 38 cm

Bibliography: L'estampe des Fauves, Emmanuel Pernoud, p. 64.

Marquet is considered one of the founding members of the Fauvist movement, along with his lifelong friend, Henri Matisse. Unlike other members of the group, his style was characterized by a more moderate, harmonious, and balanced Fauvism, prioritizing the capture of natural light over tonal intensity. He actively participated in the celebrated Salon d'Automne exhibition of 1905, where the term "fauves" was formally coined.
