With this square-format work, Medsan turns Léviator, the formidable sea-serpent Pokémon, into a motif for an elaborately adorned Japanese byōbu screen. Risen above the waves, with its gaping mouth, the blue dragon unfolds against a background of gold leaf punctuated by silver and gold foam-tipped waves. This single giclee bears the signature « メドサン » (Medsan) in a cartouche.

The visual strength of the composition lies in its homage to the great gilded screens (byōbu) of the Rinpa school, notably Ogata Kōrin’s famous Waves: a radiant gold ground, stylized waves with elegant arabesques, rhythmically divided by the vertical lines of the panels.
