Description from the seller
Large Sicilian brazier in copper and brass with a female figure – 19th century
Definitive description
Important antique brazier in copper and brass, probably of southern Italian manufacture, presumably Sicilian, dating to the 19th century / late 1800s.
The object presents a scenographic and highly decorative structure, composed of a main body in pierced brass, resting on three decorative feet, with a removable inner copper vessel beaten. The upper part consists of a large removable dome, also pierced, surmounted by a full-height female figure.
The upper figure, about 15 cm high, depicts a woman with one hand raised and the other turned downward, crossed by a decorative element between the hands. It could represent an allegorical figure, perhaps related to fire, light, or domestic warmth.
The brazier was intended to contain embers in the interior copper vessel, distributing heat through the pierced structure. Today it is a highly decorative object, ideal as an interior accent, a scenographic element, or a collector’s piece.
Measurements
Total height: 78 cm
Maximum diameter: 54 cm
Footprint between the feet: 53 cm
Removable upper part with dome and figure: 55 cm
Diameter of the dome under the figure: 34 cm
Upper decorative figure: 15 cm
Interior copper vessel: Ø 32 cm × H 7.5 cm
Weight: about 6 kg
Condition
In overall excellent condition for age and use. It shows patina, oxidation, signs of time and normal signs of use. The interior copper vessel is present and removable. The structure is complete and stable. Some screws/nuts may have been tightened or replaced over time, but the piece as a whole preserves good antique coherence.
