Description from the seller
Antonio Sciacca (1957) – Original Marker Drawing on Paper
Original artwork by the Italian artist Antonio Sciacca (Catania, 1957), executed entirely in marker on artist's paper.
The artwork is hand-signed by the artist in the lower left corner and is also accompanied by an autographed dedication on the reverse, included as part of the lot. The photographs show the front and reverse of the artwork, as well as the dedication, providing complete documentation of the piece.
This is a figurative drawing of an expressionist character, constructed through a highly dominant linear language. The female figure does not seek a naturalistic representation, but rather a formal synthesis in which volume is achieved through the very network of lines rather than by means of traditional modelling with light and shadow.
The composition is organised around a frontal portrait, slightly offset by the presence of a group of fruits in the lower left corner, which act as a visual counterbalance and provide stability to the overall composition.
The drawing is constructed almost exclusively through:
• continuous lines;
• broken lines;
• superimposed strokes;
• variations in line density.
The second colour (sepia-orange) separates planes, reinforces selected volumes and creates visual depth.
The economy of means is remarkable: using only two colours and a highly confident line, the artist succeeds in defining the face, hands, hair, clothing and the depicted fruits without resorting to painterly effects.
Formally, the artwork belongs to a contemporary figurative language in which expressionist elements coexist with a certain symbolic component, deliberately moving away from the academic portrait tradition.
The paper is in very good overall condition. The composition remains fully intact and no significant damage is visible that would compromise its stability or proper appreciation.
Paper dimensions: 49.5 × 34 cm.
NOTE: The artwork is presented in a simple frame used exclusively as a protective support to keep the paper perfectly flat during storage and transportation. The frame has no artistic or commercial value, contains no glass, and should be regarded solely as a protective support intended to ensure that the artwork reaches its new owner in the best possible condition.
