Roland Topor, born 1938 in Paris as the son of Polish-Jewish parents, survived the German occupation, hidden in the countryside. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts and began publishing drawings in magazines such as 'Bizarre'. He was a painter, poet, illustrator, set designer, dramatist, director, actor, songwriter, animator, poster designer. His novel 'The Tenant' was adapted into a film by Roman Polanski. Roland Topor died in 1997 in Paris.
