Description from the seller
This refined watercolor depicts a group of Highland cattle, with great attention given to the characteristic coat texture, the imposing horns, and the rugged landscape in which the animals are situated. The artist, with a subtle mastery of color and light, convincingly captures the atmosphere of the British Highlands. The detailed rendering of the animals bears witness to thorough knowledge of nature and keen powers of observation.
The work was created by Thomas Rowden (1842), a British artist who was initially trained as a carpenter and joiner. After a period of service with the Royal Marines, he settled again in Exeter in 1880, where he devoted himself entirely to painting as a self-taught artist. His oeuvre consists mainly of landscapes with cattle, sheep and wild ponies, set in the expansive countryside of Dartmoor and the Scottish Highlands.
Dimensions: 20 x 37 cm
Dimensions with frame: 40 x 57 cm
Viewing is of course possible. In addition, we have our own in-house framing workshop, which celebrates its 85th anniversary. Furthermore, we make use of restorers from the professional association: 'Restauratoren Nederland'. If you would like to make use of this, we would of course be happy to hear from you.
