Kuno Schiefer (Stuttgart, 1948 – São José dos Campos, 1992) was a German painter and graphic artist who spent most of his life working in Brazil. His body of work includes paintings, drawings and prints, with his Brazilian period being particularly characterized by influences from tropical nature and landscape. His work was noticed early on and exhibited in major galleries in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. From 1985 he alternated between Brazil and Berlin, which had an important influence on his artistic development.
In his work, Schiefer evolved from figurative depictions of everyday objects to expressive, often abstract interpretations of vegetation and nature. His paintings are characterized by intense colors, a strong sense of light and an almost musical rhythm in composition and brushwork. Through the interplay between Europe and Brazil, a personal visual language emerged, in which he progressively loosened himself from figurative representation and arrived at more introspective and free painting.
