This atmospheric rural genre scene of the Hungarian Great Plain, featuring figures in traditional hats, a horse in the background, and characteristic farmstead architecture, reflects the popularized and modernized tradition of Alföld realism, while also conveying the more lyrical approach to rural subjects that emerged in Hungarian art after the era of Socialist Realism.
The work is distinguished by its dark, atmospheric palette of deep blues and reds, combined with a richly textured, expressive surface treatment—hallmarks of the artist’s mature period in the 1970s and 1980s.
