Contextual Note
Second Image (2003) is a superb testament to Jorge Castillo's graphic maturity, one of the great masters of lyrical surrealism and Spanish expressionist figuration of the 20th and 21st centuries. This etching stands out for the mastery in combining aquatint textures on the central plate and the subtlety of the polychrome elements (the yellow bird, the blue upper profiles, and the dense amalgam of sienna-toned faces on the right side).
As it is an Artist's Proof, the closing of such a carefully produced international edition adds extra appeal for meticulous collectors of contemporary graphic art.
