Robert Pothecary (Southampton, 1963) is a British painter who has lived and worked in Sint-Oedenrode, the Netherlands since 1986.
A major theme in his painting is archaeology, which has interested him since his youth. In various places in South England, as a child he also did 'excavations' in the hope of finding something from the past. His interest was also awakened by his grandparents' walled garden, who lived in a Victorian house.
His interest in archaeology grew when, after his studies at Southampton Art College, he began study trips to places with many interesting excavation sites, such as Egypt, Syria, Jordan, and Turkey. All these impressions ultimately influenced his work. After first drawing all the impressions on working drawings, they were eventually integrated into his paintings. In his homeland he also worked after his studies for Zillwoods Ltd, a design company that specialized in making logos.
