(Eugène) Brands (Amsterdam, 1913 - there, 2002) was a Dutch painter and self-taught. Brands took part in 1946 in the group exhibition Young Painters at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, where an entire hall of his work was filled. Brands maintained good contact with director Sandberg, who promised him a solo exhibition. In the meantime the Cobra movement was also founded by, among others, Corneille, Karel Appel and Asger Jorn. Brands was a member of the artists' group for a short time and, specifically for a large Cobra group exhibition, Brands produced a number of large works. In 1993 Brands stopped painting on canvas and from that moment on dedicated himself only to gouache on paper.
