Description from the seller
An authentic, characterful Japanese cast-iron tea kettle (tetsubin) from the 19th century (late Edo-Meiji).
The shoulder of the pot and the rim of the lid feature the classic, sought-after Arare (hailstone) relief pattern.
This example is a testament to pure traditional craftsmanship.
The characteristic horizontal seam around the body proves that the kettle was cast in a two-part sand or clay mold. The heavy, hand-forged iron handle is robust and firmly anchored.
Condition:
Exterior: In magnificent, pristine antique condition with a deep, authentic iron oxide patina. The spout is completely intact without chips or cracks.
Interior: Remarkably well preserved! The original, dark protective layer is largely intact, with stable traces of lime and light surface rust typical for its age. No deep pitting corrosion or blistering, which is very rare for an object of this age. Dimensions:
Total height (including handle): 20.5 cm
Height without handle: 12.3 cm
Height without lid: 10 cm
Diameter: 16 cm
Weight: 1476 g.
A beautiful, atmospheric collector's item for the lover of Japanese tea culture and Asian art!
Your item will be carefully packaged and shipped with full track and trace for your peace of mind; local pickup is also warmly welcomed in Ekeren (Antwerp), Belgium.
