Description from the seller
Beautiful and rare etching aquatint by Wifredo Lam (1902–1982)
Images - 1962
Limited edition of only 50 copies
Copy number 27/50
Pencil signature bottom right
Lam does not tell a story.
His works do not have a single interpretation.
They are symbolic images.
They arise from the union of different cultures.
The artist wanted to create a universal language capable of evoking the mystery of life and origins.
The figures seem like ancestral spirits.
They belong neither to the human world nor to the animal world.
They live in a ritual space.
This print combines two techniques
Etching - carries out the main drawing, produces fine and very vivid lines, mainly recognizable in the contours of the figures.
Aquatint - is used to obtain all the large gray surfaces.
It is thanks to aquatint that the work has this almost smoky atmosphere.
good state of conservation with some signs of time
see photographs.
rare work belonging to one of Lam's most sought-after periods (the Sixties)
shipping always tracked
the work is shipped laid flat in a folder
