Description from the seller
David Law
Photographer Artist – Creator of contemporary images
Multidisciplinary photographic artist, author and musician, David Law develops work focused on gaze, presence and the perception of the image in urban space. He first made a name for himself with a series devoted to shop window mannequins, integrated into the city through a subtle play of reflections and superpositions. This exploration of gaze and presence gave rise to an art book published in 2021. Intrigued by the singular aesthetics of collectible dolls and Japanese figurines, he continues this reflection by staging them in the streets of Paris and other European capitals. Through framing, light and composition, these inert models acquire a troubling, almost living presence, questioning our relationship to illusion and projection.
New Series – Walls of legends
This series pays tribute to iconic figures who have left their mark on history, music, cinema and popular culture. Each portrait, reduced to the essentials, captures in a few powerful contrasts an instantly recognizable identity. Realized with contemporary digital tools and then transposed into a stencil aesthetic, the works belong to the street art tradition, between spontaneity and mastery of gesture. Deep black and raw surfaces evoke direct wall intervention, while imperfections and textures reinforce their urban character. Between collective memory and visual expression, this series offers a timeless reading of icons who continue to inhabit our imagination.
Edition & Production
Each work is offered in a limited edition of 8 numbered copies + 4 artist’s proofs (A.P.), signed by the artist and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. The prints are made on aluminum with a built-in back mount. Printed on luminous white vinyl, mounted between two aluminum plates, with soft UV- and humidity-resistant lamination, guaranteeing excellent durability, long-term color stability and a modern, contemporary look.
Background
Since 2014, David Law participates in about twenty contemporary art fairs per year in France and Europe. He is also the appointed photographer and videographer for several organizers of contemporary art fairs. Parallel to his visual activity, he develops a writerly and musician’s career, including 3 novels, a collection of short stories, a comic book, a photo book and 5 self-produced CDs. Lead singer and guitarist, he currently performs with the group FRENZY.
