AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Author: Joan-Josep Tharrats (1918, Girona - 2001, Barcelona)
Technique: Lithography on paper
Dimensions: 70 x 50 cm
Comment: The work shows small spots of paper oxidation.
Notarial certificate of authenticity.

His first exhibition was in 1949 at the El Jardín Galleries in Barcelona. In the 1950s he regularly exhibited at Sala Gaspar in Barcelona, in addition to showing in Stockholm, New York and, on the occasion of the V Biennial, in São Paulo. He exhibited at the Venice Biennale in the editions of 1960 and 1964. Thus he became one of the Catalan painters best known internationally.

He was one of the pioneers of Catalan avant-garde after the war. He evolved from a linear abstraction with surrealist influence in his Dau al Set period, toward an informalism with rich texture, abundant color and free handwriting.

In 1983 he received the Creu de Sant Jordi Prize from the Government of Catalonia and in 1994 the National Prize of Plastic Arts from the Ministry of Culture of Spain. That same year he was admitted to the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Sant Jordi.
