Description from the seller
Original artwork on paper, hand-signed and numbered 62/100.
The composition features one of the most recognizable abstract vocabularies developed by Juan Sotomayor: vertically structured elements with a strong visual rhythm, gestural overlays in black and gray, and a vivid yellow color band that articulates the surface of the work.
Sotomayor's work evolved from initial figuration toward a lyrical and material abstraction focused on light, color, and the rhythmic repetition of linear forms. This piece clearly reflects that mature stage of visual research.
Juan Sotomayor was born in Villanueva del Arzobispo (Jaén) in 1959. He studied in Zaragoza and since the late 1980s developed a solid international career across Spain, Sweden, France, Germany, and the United States.
In 1988 he held a solo exhibition at the Palacio de La Lonja in Zaragoza and later exhibited in galleries such as Fernando Latorre (Madrid and Zaragoza), Pelaires (Palma de Mallorca), Fernando Silió (Santander), and ARMA Gallery (Madrid).
His work has participated in international fairs such as ARCO, Art Madrid, Estampa, Stockholm Art Fair, and Toronto International Art Fair.
Furthermore, his works are part of important institutional and corporate collections, including:
Fundación La Caixa
Colección Circa XX
Fundación Coca-Cola
Ministerio de Educación y Cultura de España
Colección Argentaria
Colección ONCE
Gobierno de Navarra
Colección Salvat
UNED
