Description from the seller

Nico Vrielink (1958)
Reclining nude
Charcoal on thick paper
105 x 150 cm

In this expressive drawing, Nico Vrielink reveals his exceptional ability to achieve maximal emotional expressiveness with minimal means. With bold charcoal lines and subtle tonal differences, an intimate portrayal of a resting female figure emerges, caught between observation and introspection.

The loose, energetic line work contrasts with the softness of the model and gives the work a spontaneous, almost sketch-like directness. At the same time, the composition betrays a great mastery of form, light and space. The figure seems both present and fleeting, as if she exists between memory and reality.

The use of charcoal enhances the expressive quality of the work. The deep blacks, smudges and visible actions of the artist make the creative process tangible. This results in a work that not only depicts a figure but also the energy and emotion of the moment when it was created.

This drawing illustrates Vrielink's ongoing fascination with the human form and his ability to bring together beauty, vulnerability and stillness into a powerful visual language.
