This Reform Original 3, a magnificent example of classic mid-20th-century German engineering and a highly prized model among vintage writing enthusiasts, is presented in an utterly enviable state of conservation. The body and cap, manufactured in a robust thermoplastic resin injection in jet black, retain a deep, clean, uniform mirror shine, reflecting a magnificently cared-for surface completely free of the usual cracks, fractures, or heavy-use marks that these postwar work tools typically show.
The original gold nib stands out superbly: it features the classic, streamlined silhouette of German nibs of the era, with its tines perfectly aligned and the iridium point intact, symmetric and without the slightest deformation or twist. The flat ebonite feed remains structurally intact, clean, and precisely centered, ensuring a constant ink flow and an imposing aesthetic presence.
Regarding the metal details, the characteristic curved clip with the name "REFORM" raised in relief and the double gold ring at the base of the cap maintain a clean luster and excellent tension, showing only a slight and natural wear on the upper crown from the passage of time, which adds a very honest historical patina to the piece.
A definitive factor for its extremely high collectible value is the extraordinary sharpness of its imprint. The longitudinal engraving on the resin body remains impeccably deep, clean, and perfectly legible: “Reform [Wings Logo] Original,” finished at the end with the model number “3,” which attests to the minimum level of friction or wear the surface has suffered over the decades. Similarly, at the base of the blind cap the classic engraving identifying the German brand that marks the type of nib is clearly visible.
Upon removing the rear screw-cap, the mechanical heart of this model is revealed: the metal plunger corresponding to its button-filler system. As seen in the images, the plunger rod is structurally perfect, aligned, and free of deep rust or jams. In the area of the body threads, subtle whitish traces are observed, typical of talc maintenance sediments or chalk formerly used to protect the mechanism, confirming that the pen has been stored responsibly.
In conclusion, this is a showroom specimen, extremely sober, robust, and preserved to an exceptionally high standard. A historical piece of Central European writing archaeology that will enrich any high-level collection.
Happy bidding!
