The Montblanc 642 fountain pen presented in this lot shows a highly notable state of preservation, with an overall elegant appearance and well-preserved condition, typical of an instrument that has been cared for over time.

The gold-plated cap, with its characteristic vertical striated finish, retains a deep and uniform shine. The surface maintains its original luster very well, with only light micro-signs of surface use, normal in a vintage piece, with no visible loss of plating or notable dents. The clip is straight, firm, and correctly aligned, maintaining its original tension.

The black resin barrel presents an equally clean look, with a deep polish that reflects light well. Fine micro marks from use are observed, typical of the passage of time, but there are no cracks, deformations, or structural damage. The model engravings “642” and the “M” mark on the rear of the barrel remain crisp and perfectly legible.

The Montblanc emblem on the top of the cap is in very good condition, with well-defined contours and no appreciable material losses.

The 14C gold nib, engraved with the classic mountain motif and the inscriptions “14C – Montblanc – 585,” is visually in good condition, although the two-tone has worn down. The nib tines are correctly aligned and the iridium point shows good integrity. The ebonite feed is clean and well preserved.

The pen has been serviced and tested, ensuring proper writing functionality.

Overall, this is a very well-preserved exemplar, with a highly attractive aesthetic presence and subtle wear in line with its age.

To preserve this piece in optimal condition, it is recommended to use high-quality fountain pen inks, avoid pigmented inks, clean the system with lukewarm water if not used for some time, dry it properly before storage, and keep it in a dry place, away from direct light and extreme temperatures. Always operate the filling system gently to prolong the mechanism’s life.
