Description from the seller
This rare lithograph by Richard Long presents a restrained circular composition with an abstract surface texture inspired by the Icelandic landscape.
The lithograph is signed, dated, and numbered in pencil at the bottom center.
The title “Icelandic Rock Drawing” was handwritten by the artist in red pencil on the sheet.
The work originates from the extremely small edition of only 35 impressions, making it one of Richard Long’s rare and sought-after graphic works.
The piece shows a reduced, circular composition with an abstract surface texture inspired by the volcanic rock landscapes of Iceland. The fine structures and natural textures give the work a calm, meditative aura and reflect Long’s unmistakable artistic handwriting.
Reduced to structure, rhythm, and form, the composition embodies Long’s minimalist approach, in which nature, time, movement, and human presence in the landscape are reduced to their essential elements. His works arise from the immediate experience of nature and translate wandering and landscape experiences into a quiet, conceptual visual language.
The work is professionally framed, mounted floating on black linen in a deep, handmade wooden frame with UltraVue ArtGlass (anti-reflective and UV-protective).
Dimensions including the frame approx. 57 × 47 cm.
Richard Long (born 1945 in GB) is among the most important representatives of Land Art and international conceptual art. Since the 1960s, he has created works based on walks and interventions in the landscape, exploring the relationship between humans and nature. With simple gestures and natural materials, he makes time, distance, and place visible and tangible. His work is characterized by conceptual clarity, reduced formal language, and a high degree of restraint, translating physical movement into drawings, photographs, texts, and printed graphics.
Works by Richard Long are today in the collections of major international museums. In 1989 he was awarded the Turner Prize and represented Great Britain at the Venice Biennale in 1976.
