Description from the seller

Nude Study, c.1950, gelatin-silver print, with copyright stamps of the photographer in blue ink (verso).

In fine condition, light yellowish spots verso. Please check the scans for details.

Serge Jacques was a French photographer active in postwar Paris, known for photographing Saint-Germain-des-Prés, jazz musicians, cabaret culture, Paris nightlife, and mid-century nude imagery. His work belongs to the same wider visual world that made postwar Paris synonymous with jazz, bohemian life, and French glamour photography, combining documentary observation with a polished, sensual approach to the body. Closely associated with Paris-Hollywood and related publications, Jacques produced images that evoke the atmosphere of the Left Bank as well as the elegance and erotic charge of vintage French charm photography. Today, he remains a notable name in the visual culture of postwar Paris.
