Description from the seller
In this very beautiful large-format canvas, Master Antonio Sciacca stages a fascinating dialogue between myth and nature, typical of his more mature production. The work is dominated by the figure of a Gorgon (Medusa), rendered with an aesthetic that recalls the world of theater and costume: the face is painted like a mask, almost to emphasize artistic fiction, while the snakes crowning her head dart with vivid colors (green, yellow, blue), creating a unique chromatic dynamism.
The title, "The Gorgon and My Friends," revealed by the autograph inscription on the back, suggests an ironic and personal interpretation of the myth. The "friends" are represented by a majestic roaring tiger, rendered with tactile and vibrant brushstrokes, and by a mandrill with a multicolored snout, symbolizing a wild yet observant nature.
Sciacca confirms his extraordinary technical ability in the use of color and light. The contrast between the neutral, dotted background and the ignition of the reds on the Gorgon’s body gives the work almost a three-dimensional depth. The painterly execution is skilled, capable of shifting from the almost hyperreal detail of the animals to the formal synthesis of the female body.
Signature: The work is signed lower right "Antonio Sciacca".
On the back of the canvas is the title of the work and the artist's full signature, ensuring total authenticity.
Included in the photographic documentation is a photo of the artist with the artwork itself (present on the back of the frame), a element of very high value for the collector at auction, as it serves as authentic on-photo evidence.
Essential biography of the artist:
Antonio Sciacca is an internationally acclaimed artist. Discovered by critic Alberico Sala and supported by figures such as Leonardo Sciascia and Federico Zeri, he is famous for his canvases that reinterpret the great themes of art history (from Ovid’s Metamorphoses to the great masters of the past) with a contemporary and visionary sensibility. His works are present in important public and private collections.
Technique: Oil on canvas
Dimensions: 80 x 60 cm
Condition: Excellent
