Mimmo Rotella (1918-2006) - La Benzinara

An exceptional, historic work with great commercial impact, produced using color lithography and offset printing, by the master of Pop Art and international Nouveau Réalisme, Mimmo Rotella (Catanzaro, 1918 - Milan, 2006).
This brilliant work is titled "La benzinara", was created in 1974 and published by the renowned Milan-based publishing house Edizioni Plura.
The work depicts the iconic Italian actress Monica Vitti in her famous role in the film "Teresa la ladra" (1973). Rotella masterfully transposes her legendary urban décollage language onto the graphic plate. The magnetic smile and the vibrant red hair of Monica Vitti dominate the composition, surrounded by deep horizontal bands of saturated cobalt blue, bright yellow and warm gold. The composition visually evokes the frayed layers of movie posters that lined the streets of postwar Italy, capturing the essence of European pop culture and cinematic nostalgia.
