AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Ugo Nespolo (Mosso Santa Maria, now in the province of Biella, August 29, 1941) is one of the most important Italian contemporary artists. Painter, sculptor, filmmaker, designer and writer, he is known for his lively style, characterized by bright colors, geometric shapes and a constant ironic streak.
After earning a diploma in painting at the Albertina Academy of Fine Arts, where he studied under Enrico Paulucci, he graduated in Modern Letters at the University of Turin with a thesis in semiology. Since the 1960s he approached Pop Art, Dadaism and neo-avant-garde movements, coming into contact with artists such as Lucio Fontana, Michelangelo Pistoletto and Enrico Baj.

His production ranges from painting to sculpture, from experimental cinema to theater, up to design and graphics. His works, often made with inlays of wood and various materials, resemble large colorful jigsaws and reflect a playful artistic language but rich in cultural references.

In the eighties he spent long periods in New York, an experience that deeply influenced his artistic research. He also created theatrical scenographies, advertising campaigns, design objects and important public art interventions, including the artistic project for the subway stations in Turin. From 2007 to 2014 he was President of the National Museum of Cinema.

Ugo Nespolo’s works are exhibited in museums and collections around the world. His artistic language, easily recognizable for the use of bright colors, clean lines and references to contemporary culture, has made him one of the protagonists of Italian art from the sixties to today.
