A single vintage fountain pen from Germany, model 242 Gray Striated, made of precious resin with gold‑plated trim, mid‑20th century, 11.1 cm long and 1.1 cm in diameter, with a 14K gold nib and a functioning piston fill system.
Description from the seller
A0000004667
The pen is in very good general condition for its age, largely preserving its original aesthetics and functionality. The gray striated cellulose body maintains a good definition of the longitudinal lines, with a transparency still visible in the ink window, which allows proper assessment of the ink level. There are light surface marks typical of use and aging, but they do not affect the material's integrity or its visual appeal.
The cap, in black cellulose, is in good structural condition, with normal signs of use such as micro-scratches and slight wear in the areas most handled. The metal components gold-plated (clip and rings) retain a good presence, with possible light wear to the plating at specific points, something common in pieces from this era.
The piston-filling system has been serviced and functions correctly, ensuring smooth and safe loading. The pen is delivered fully operational. The 14K gold nib offers a smooth and consistent writing experience, with a slight variation in stroke width characteristic of these vintage models.
No relevant structural cracks are observed, which is especially important in cellulose pieces of this age. Overall, it is a well-preserved, functional specimen ready for use or collection.
Conservation recommendations
It is recommended to use high-quality inks specifically for fountain pens, avoiding pigmented inks. In case of prolonged non-use, rinse with lukewarm water, dry completely before storing and keep in a dry place, away from direct light and extreme temperatures. Gently operate the filling mechanism to preserve the mechanism.
It will be sent in a courtesy box for proper conservation. Happy bidding!
