Description from the seller
RETRATO CON NARANJAS is a 70x100 cm painting by contemporary artist Ernest García. Portrait with oranges presents a front-facing, serene and contained female figure, wrapped in a large blue cloak that dominates almost the entire composition. The face, delicately modeled, emerges calmly over a blue background, while branches of oranges and a potted plant frame the scene and give it a domestic, Mediterranean, luminous character. The presence of the fruits introduces a dialogue between portrait and decorative interior, bringing the work closer to both the portrait genre and still life.
The chromatic palette is built on the contrast between intense blues, vivid greens and warm oranges, a combination very effective visually and emotionally. This expressive use of color recalls Fauvism and early 20th-century modern painting, especially the color freedom of Henri Matisse and certain decorative solutions of the Nabis, where color does not simply describe reality, but organizes space and transmits atmosphere.
The work also dialogues with the tradition of intimate portraiture and decorative interiors, in which the figure appears integrated into an environment of objects and vegetal motifs that speak of identity, sensitivity and lifestyle. There is in it a formal simplification and an elegant frontality that likewise recall certain portraits by Kees van Dongen or even some echoes of Modigliani’s painting, though here reinterpreted from a more luminous, flatter and more ornamental sensibility.
Together, Portrait with oranges is a work with strong visual presence, where the female figure becomes the axis of balance between color, ornament and calm. It is a painting that unites references to European pictorial modernity with a contemporary, fresh and decorative language, ideal for those seeking a piece with echoes of art history, but with an actual personality and very attractive for a collection.
