Good condition
Original work by Jan Cremer. In honor of his exhibition: Jan Cremer as Painter (The Hague period 1958-1962) at Galerie Nouvelles Imges in The Hague.
Cremer has, in several exhibition catalogs, created a fine work.
Jan Cremer, writer and artist, was born in 1940 in Enschede. His father died in 1942, which meant that upbringing fell entirely to his mother. Jan's mother, Rosza Csordás Szomorkay, was Hungarian and studied at the conservatory in Budapest. After the war, Jan Cremer was placed in foster homes and colony houses by child protection services. In the fifties he held various jobs, served with the marines, and for a time worked as a sailor on the open sea. In 1958 he undertook a few months of study at the art academies in Arnhem and The Hague. Cremer lived for a while on Ibiza and in 1964 moved to New York. Afterwards he alternated living in America and Europe. As a writer, Cremer became famous overnight with "I, Jan Cremer" (1964). It is a picaresque novel with sex, violence, and adventure. As a result, the literary merit of his authorship was not regarded as very high by everyone. The novel remained in libraries for a long time. "I, Jan Cremer" appeared in many languages. Besides novels, Jan Cremer wrote travelogues and plays. The art of Jan Cremer consists of paintings, graphics and gouaches and often depicts Dutch, and also Italian, landscapes in vibrant colors.
