Description from the seller
Outside Bathing Tub is a 70x100 cm painting by contemporary artist Ernest García. It depicts an intimate, evasive scene where a female figure appears submerged in an outdoor bath, surrounded by lush vegetation that transforms the space into a small private paradise. The woman, seen from behind, holds a book or magazine while resting in the tub, so the everyday gesture of bathing also becomes an image of contemplation, silence, and retreat. The composition suggests a voluntary pause before the world, a moment of well-being suspended between nature, reading, and water.
The work is built on a strong protagonism of color and a loose, visible, expressive brushstroke. The acidic greens, bright yellows, cool blues, and deep blacks create a vibrant atmosphere that recalls Fauvism and Post-Impressionism, especially that artistic tradition where color does not merely describe reality but emotionally intensifies it. In this sense, echoes of Henri Matisse can be perceived in the formal synthesis, the vegetal decoration, and the chromatic exaltation, as well as a certain closeness to the intimate domestic and sensual atmosphere of Pierre Bonnard, reimagined here in a tropical and contemporary context.
The contrast between the naked body, the red of the cloth or swimsuit, and the enveloping mass of large-format leaves gives the scene a nearly cinematic air. The vegetation functions not just as a background but as a living presence that embraces and protects the protagonist, integrating her within an environment of exotic resonances. That union between figure and nature also recalls the tradition of modern Arcadian scenes, where the garden, patio, or outdoor corner acts as sensory refuges. There is a hedonistic and serene dimension in the painting, but also a refined decorative sense that brings it closer to Mediterranean-rooted contemporary figuration. The bathtub, rendered with broad edges and a simplified structure, introduces an interesting tension between interior and exterior: it is a domestic object displaced into a lush, almost jungle-like landscape. That mix of private comfort and open nature lends the work its singularity and reinforces its poetic character. The viewer does not simply observe a bath scene, but an image of retreat, rest, femininity, and visual pleasure, where water and leaves dialogue with the body in a very balanced composition.
Outdoor Bathing Tub is especially attractive to collectors interested in contemporary figuration, Fauvism, decorative painting, intimate interior and exterior scenes, female portraits, resting scenes, Mediterranean art, and works referencing Matisse, Bonnard, and the tradition of expressive color. It is a piece that combines sensuality, nature, and modernity with a strong visual presence, ideal for both a collection and a stylish, luminous interior.
