The painter Martinus Jacobus Nefkens was born on June 1, 1866 in Hedikhuizen. He died on December 24, 1941 in Ede.
Nefkens lived and worked in Antwerp, Amsterdam, Gorinchem, The Hague and Lunteren. He was a pupil of the Drawing Academy in Antwerp and of the Hague School master Hendrik Willem Mesdag.
Nefkens painted and watercoloured entirely in the style of the Hague School, mainly landscapes and heath scenes with sheep.
He was a member of “Arti et Amicitiae” in Amsterdam.
The artwork originates from a private collection.
